On Wednesday 4 March 2020, 201 students travelled to Lady Northcote YMCA Camp in Bacchus Marsh.
We left ߺ in four buses each carrying two House Groups and we arrived just in time for lunch. There was enough time for a quick tour of the campsite and setting up the cabin rooms before getting started on the first of eight different activity rotations across the three days.
The activities included the giant swing, leap of faith, Frisbee golf, canoeing, wild action, high ropes, low ropes and yabbying.
It was little wet during the first session on the Thursday but after that the weather cleared up and remained perfect for the rest of the camp.
After each day, the students were able to come together as a large group for a very satisfying dinner. On the first night it was pasta bolognaise with a bowl of ice-cream for dessert and on the second night is was roast chicken, potatoes and chocolate mousse.
After dinner the year level was split into two groups and everyone got to enjoy the Yoogali Disco (run by our most recent Old Collegians, 2019 Year 12 graduates!) and the all-time classic movie The Goonies.
The camp was a wonderful opportunity for students to develop relationships with others in their house groups.
It was a fantastic three days and I’m sure that the students would have made the most of recovering over the Labour Day long weekend (I know that the staff did!).
“Enjoying the time with my friends and getting to know people well I can't wait for the next camp!”
“Canoeing was so much fun, especially we had the free fall and got to splash each other!”
“The giant swing was scary but I’m glad I tried it.”
“Catching the most yabbies!!!”
“My most memorable moment from camp was the disco, it was an enjoyable night. Plus even if you didn't want to dance you still had a good time.”
“Holding a snake and a mountain pygmy possum.”
“Making some new friends I didn’t know that well prior to camp.”
“Thanks to those that encouraged me on the high ropes and giant swing.”
“Wild action animals… SOOOOO CUTE!!!”
“My first time away, it was fun!”
“The most memorable moment was that we got to spend time with our house groups and doing the activities in a fun way!”
“Disco night 4 sure!!!”
