The myMAP subjects below link to VCE subjects related to the learning domain of Languages. Students choose the options that are best for them. There are no prerequisites for entry into VCE, but students are strongly encouraged to select subjects that align with those that they wish to take in VCE. Students are encouraged to select to study a language over multiple semesters in preparation for VCE. The College can also facilitate students to study languages outside of French and Punjabi through the Victorian School of Languages.

French

VCE French focuses on student participation in interpersonal communication, interpreting the language of other speakers, and presenting information and ideas in French on a range of themes and topics. Students develop and extend skills in listening, speaking, reading, writing and viewing in French in a range of contexts and develop cultural understanding in interpreting and creating language. Students develop their understanding of the relationships between language and culture in new contexts and consider how these relationships shape communities. Throughout the study students are given opportunities to make connections and comparisons based on personal reflections about the role of language and culture in communication and in personal identity

Students develop and apply their skills in French reading, writing, speaking, listening, and viewing through tasks on a variety of themes. They continue to learn about the culture of France and French-speaking countries through independent work as well as collaboration in small groups. Students develop confidence in seeking help, implementing feedback, and self-editing their work in French.

French: A Taste of Everything

Through the medium of French language and with the aid of role play, students explore the food and cultural aspects of different regions of France and French speaking countries. Students will be provided with opportunities to practice reading a menu, reading and writing restaurant reviews, ordering, describing the food and following a recipe. Students will also have an opportunity to cook French dishes.

Victorian School of Languages

The following myMAP subjects correspond to VCE subjects within the academic area of Languages. Students are afforded the autonomy to choose the options most suitable for their language pursuits. While no prerequisites exist for enrollment in VCE, students are urged to engage in sustained language study across multiple semesters as part of their VCE preparation. Additionally, the College extends support to students desiring to explore languages beyond French and Punjabi by means of collaboration with the Victorian School of Languages. Both students and parents are encouraged to connect with the Learning Leader of Language to discuss appropriate options for students.

Victorian School of Languages

��ߺ�� College can facilitate students to learn a language online through the Victorian School of Languages (VSL). The languages offered are; Arabic, Chinese-Mandarin, German, Greek, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Latin, Spanish and Vietnamese. Please note that this course is delivered through distance education and whilst the school allocates time at school for the subject, ��ߺ�� can not provide direct support for rules, regulations, policies or subject content set out by The Victorian School of Languages and their teachers. .Please note that there is a $560 annual fee for each language studied through VSL.

exploring philosophy and psychology

Philosophy and Psychology overlap, particularly when it comes to the notion of consciousness. Psychology helps us to understand why people behave the way that they do, our understanding of personal identity and self, and the place of science in understanding our mental processes. What it can’t do, is tell us about each person’s unique ‘first person experience.’ What is it like to be you? Where is consciousness located in the brain? How can we objectively understand what is a subjective experience? In ‘Exploring Psychology and Philosophy’ student’s learn how each of these studies seeks to find the ultimate truth, and what each can contribute to how we understand ideas of self, consciousness, and the world around us.

Punjabi

VCE Punjabi focuses on student participation in learning language and using language to interact with others, analyse language and create meaning in language. Learning language and using language require students to engage with the range of perspectives and topics related to the concepts that are a feature of the CCAFL Framework. Students develop and extend skills in listening, speaking, reading, writing and viewing in Punjabi in a range of contexts. They develop cultural and intercultural understanding, including skills to mediate between Punjabi-speaking communities and the Australian social context. Students develop their understanding of the relationships between language and culture in new contexts and consider how these relationships shape communities. Throughout the study students are given opportunities to make connections and comparisons based on personal reflections about the role of language and culture in communication and in personal identity.

Punjabi

This course aims to develop and expand students’ communicative aspects of Punjabi language. It involves recognising the elements of Gurmukhi script, recognising basic Punjabi sentence structure, and recognising some key elements of Punjabi grammar including singulars/plurals, antonyms/synonyms, developing reading skills for Punjabi texts, increasing knowledge and understanding of geography, history, and culture of Punjab, and reflecting on the role of Punjabi language and culture in their own lives.

Punjabi: A TASTE OF EVERYTHING

Through the medium of Punjabi language, students explore Punjab’s history, festivals, food, music, dance, and cultural aspects associated with Punjabi language. Students will be provided with opportunities to develop essential language skills through interactive activities. Students will get opportunities to expand their vocabulary and improve pronunciation through speaking exercises and to gain confidence in using Punjabi in everyday situations.

Victorian School of Languages

Students study one semester of Quaere French or Quaere Punjabi at Year 7. From semester two of Year 7, students may select up to two languages including: French, Punjabi or a VSL offering in line with the myMAP program.
